When deciding whether Halloween costumes should be required to attend your party you have to think about whether or not you want about half of your guests to decline your party invitation?
Not everyone feels comfortable dressing up for Halloween, especially as we age and lose that innocence of being young but even some children don't like the dressing up. Even the author of this website doesn't dress up in a big costume, at the most a hat or prop, he considers the house of decorations his Halloween costume.
I have found it best to word it carefully in the invitation that: "Costumes are encouraged but not required". I usually limit any big door prizes to those that dressed up however.
Make the event s smash and invite everyone in costume or without.., your party will be great and with ALL of your friends.
